Description
Dynamos are devices that convert mechanical power into electricity. Developed in the 19th century, they were the first electrical generators suitable for powering factories and city streetlights, ushering in a second industrial revolution and dramatically changing daily life.
Wolfsonian founder Micky Wolfson and Miami collector Finlay Matheson, who generously donated this dynamo in honor of their friendship, share a fascination with machines. Micky requested that it be installed in the lobby to remind visitors of the power—metaphorical and literal—of the Machine Age.
